Correct water movement encourages proper exercise for marine fish, keeps immobile corals and inverts clean of deadly sediments, and distributes trace elements & fish foods evenly. Water flow also helps to push waste to protein skimmers and filters helping to keep water conditions healthy.

In saltwater reef aquariums, turbulence is a priority! Electronic aquarium wavemakers alternate power to your powerheads to mimic ocean currents and to help re-create Ebb and Flow. (Only use with powerheads that are wavemaker compatible.) Alternately you can use water flow diverters to modify any powerhead's output. Never aim water currents directly at invertebrates, and avoid creating salt spray at your tank's surface, which causes salt creep on all aquarium apparatus.
