Tropic Eden *LARGE GRAIN* Calcium Reactor Media 6.6lb.

Substratum Building Blocks of Corals, Tridacna Clams, Mollusks, and All Other Calcareous Organisms

Tropic Eden's Aragonite C.R.Media is the highest grade of aragonite granules deposited by corals, mollusks, coralline algae, and other calcareous organisms found in the natural coral reefs. Every bit is carefully collected and stringently inspected to ensure that it complies to our specification.

Tropic Eden Premium Grade Aragonite Calcium Reactor Media, C.R. MediaT, are TRUE marine originated aragonite granules, a naturally occurring calcium based material formed by many corals, mollusks, and calcareous algae as their outer shells or skeletal structure. The aragonite granules reach equilibrium with seawater at a pH of 8.2, which is also the ideal level for saltwater aquariums. When pH falls below 8.2 due to the respiration of aquarium inhabitants or other acidification processes, the aragonite granules will start to dissolve and release buffers which will spontaneously bring the system back to 8.2. At the same time the dissolved aragonite material delivers a full spectrum of marine based biogenic minerals in a perfectly balanced proportion - calcium, carbonate, strontium, along with other trace elements, buffering the alkalinity system as well as replenishing any loss or minerals consumed by aquarium inhabitants.

Tropic Eden's C.R. MediaT is carefully collected in remote coral reef sites in the South Pacific Ocean where pristine water and absolute zero pollution ensure that only aragonite granules of the highest quality are produced. C.R. MediaT is completely reef safe and has the lowest content of silica and phosphate compared to other brands. It also contains a very high proportion of Halimeda incrassata, a kind of marine calcareous algae the remains of their body are very pure lab grade aragonite flakes. Each batch of C.R. MediaT is stringently selected to make sure that it complies to our specification. The larger grain size and the extra high porosity of C.R. Media (large amount of naturally formed microscopic internal space and channels) ensure good circulation and easy carbon dioxide penetration through the granule particles, as well as optimum dissolution rate of the aragonite material, which effectively minimize CO2 consumption and enhance overall calcium reactor performance.

Calcium reactors are very useful equipments for marine aquariums, especially those emphasize on stony corals and tridacna clams because these invertebrates assimilate a lot of calcareous elements for building their skeletons or outer shells. When coupled with high quality calcareous media like Tropic Eden's C.R.Media, a calcium reactor can easily maintain calcium, carbonate, strontium, and other trace elements in a correct ratio, without having to manually apply these types of additives.

Ideally the pH of the water in the calcium reactor should be between 6.5 and 6.8. Depending on how large the bio load of the aquarium is, it is necessary to adjust the amount of CO2 gas applied or the effluent flow rate, or install a second chamber to better use up all the CO2 gas.

Caution: Excessively high level of alkalinity or pH has a tendency to initiate sudden precipitation of calcium carbonate. Proper level of magnesium is also important in preventing unnatural precipitation of CaCO3.

Alkalinity is technically a measure of the acid neutralizing capacity of a solution. It is central to marine aquarium keeping because it allows stony corals, tridacna clams, coralline algae and other calcareous organisms to properly deposit new skeletal materials. Among all the acid binding ions (acid buffers) that make up alkalinity in the marine environment like borate, hydroxide and sulphate, carbonate alkalinity tends to make up most (up to 96%) of the total alkalinity. As a result, a low alkalinity level means that carbonate ions are not easily accessible to calcareous organisms and the calcification process either slows or stops.

Moreover, aquariums with low alkalinity level is vulnerable to the tendency of pH to go down which is common to aquariums. Thus it is important to replenish alkalinity loss by running calcium reactor with C.R.Media.
