Are CREE Brand LEDs - Light Emitting Diodes really better? Yes, CREE has been around longer and is the innovator for "most of all things LED". CREE LEDs have been trusted in the pet industry for decades, for creating the proper light spectrums while being placed over public aquariums and zoo's; not only for aquatic fish tanks, for amphibian and reptile habitats also.
One of the major differences would be in mA milli-amps. CREE has higher tolerances, and can be driven at higher milli-amps and intensities, therefore being a much longer lasting diode. The CREE company incorporates an extremely strict high level of quality control during their manufacturing processes; through an intricate infrared laser guided scanning system each diode is checked to make sure it is 100%. Should it detect the slightest imperfection in any diode, it gets immediately rejected and will never be placed in any electronic light equipment, because it would never leave the facility.
The optics are 90 degree optics which focuses the light beam into a 90 degree angle and thus directs all the light down instead of losing some light to outward projection.

From a functional standpoint, these systems offer maximum controllability, with 4 programmable light stages, including: (Sunrise, Daylight, Sunset, and Moonlight). In addition, there is an intensity level setting for each mode, which simulates the natural cycle of the sun/moon... designing your lighting schedule made easy!
See the below example, of designing your lighting schedule: (Dawn to Dusk) Increase or decrease the intensity as you wish.
You could choose to begin the day, (e.g. wake-up phase) with 0% white led light, 2% blue led light, and 50% moonlight, for approximately a period of 1 hr.
You may then want your aquarium to start entering more of a dawn phase, whereas you introduce 30% white led light, increase the blue led light to 10%, and moonlight to 30%
You may continue on like this, with a variety of different lighting phases throughout the beginning part of the day, then you'll start entering into a more normal daytime phase, which may be along the lines of 100% white led light, 40% blue led light, and 0% moon light.
For your Dusk effect, Sun Down, you may want to repeat the exact opposite of the above, with the moonlight being the only leds left on throughout the night.
The major benefit of having this controllability, is that you can bring out the most vivid colors, emphasizing certain fluorescent colors at certain times of the day, and thus constantly presenting an ever changing vision to onlookers. Isn't this part of the reason we got into keeping a saltwater coral reef aquarium in the first place! Don't forget that you can instantly dim your lighting to introduce new corals and fish, then with a push of a button on your wireless remote, your system will return back to your predetermined settings.

If you disassemble most other LED units sold on the market to date, you will notice that after 2 to 4 years many will most likely begin to have integrity issues, like internal corrosion. You can see that all use mass produced, inferior PCBs, drivers, and electronics, that will vastly lose efficiency, often 40% just in the first 2 years. If you disassemble one of our units, you'll see the clean sealed welds, the plated connectors, protection tubes, and the all aluminum superior APCB. Uses passive cooling system. The manufacturer will warrant the parts against defects for a period of 12-months from the date of purchase. If a defect exists during the warranty period, the manufacturer will replace the defective part. This light was designed to be modular and components can be very easily replaced as needed.
