I went to the California Betta Society show a couple weeks ago and came home with a gorgeous new fish. He's in a much larger container right now and had built a huge bubble nest! Don't you just love betta splendens? I do!by diann - Fish Tanks Gone Wild!

Just curious what everyone's first fish experience was. How did you get started in the hobby? What kind of fish(es) were in your first tank? How big was your first tank? Do you still have that kind of fish? Why or why not? For the record, my first fish was some sort of cichlid - forgive me for not remembering but I was a baby. While I love a beautiful java fern or a huge Amazon sword plant, I bought a lovely anubias nana on a trip to San Francisco many years ago and I have to say, even though it is fairly slow-growing, it's my current all time favorite aquarium plant. What's yours?by diann - Planted Aquariums
Hi Mily, You're very smart to ask the questions before you run out and get a tank and fish. I would suggest visiting pet stores and also reading a couple of books. If you see a fish you like, read up on it and see if it's a good community tank fish or not. You don't want your new fishies attacking one another. I don't have any killies at the moment but the past pair I had were gorgeous: Fp. mirabile traudae Tinto. They're easy to keep, easy to spawn. And the colors in the male are almost always this vibrant!by diann - Killifish
